Charles Phillips in his New Role at Infor

Charles Phillips is one of the leading CEO’s in the tech world.  Financial analysts list him as one of the top 25 management leaders in software application management and this is all due to his accomplishments at Oracle. It was during his seven years as president of Oracle that Phillips outshone many other software managers by making Oracle extremely productive and profitable.  Phillips attributes his abilities on his early training in the Marines.

During his seven year stint he was a key player in the acquisition of many important firms for Oracle. These included firms like PeopleSoft, BEA systems and Siebel Systems. In 2010  Infor actively sought out Phillips to offer him the CEO position for the company.

In many respects, Infor may seem like a small company but in actuality it is the third largest applications player with more than 70,000 customers and 70 different companies.  Jim Shaper then CEO stepped down and became chairman for the company.

What can Infor expect? Well in the first few months on board Phillips started out running. He is currently successfully running the ship and looking for Infor’s next generation of products.  Analysts say he is as much a product man as he is a management expert.  Infor is perfectly satisfied with their decision to bring him onboard.  He brings innovation, organization and implementation. He works quickly and has already acquired important products for Infor as well as optimized the existing products, rolling out Infor 10 and ION Suite.

This new role Charles Phillips is taking on could point to an initial public offering of Infor, allowing the company to continue to grow via the acquisitions that Phillips is key in instigating.

Hiring a specialist such as Charles has been a coup for Infor, as Charles is known for running a tight ship. Still, for someone who is so influential in the tech industry, you would expect Charles to be a more aggressive person. In reality he is a soft spoken, very intelligent man who carefully listens before talking, but he is renowned for his special analytical skills. Charles’s background is impressive. Within a few weeks of joining Oracle, he played a key role in the company’s making a hostile takeover of PeopleSoft, a company that was buying J.D. Edwards.  This one major acquisition was the start of a large acquisition shopping spree Oracle was to go on for the next seven years.  Needless to say Oracles revenue more than tripled during Charles Phillips tenure there.  So Now Infor can expect much of the same.
